Despite being a mama passionate about green, natural living, I try not to stand on my soap box too often. I don’t want to turn anyone off or make people uncomfortable… plus, I know I am far from being an expert, and while I read a lot about green living and try out different recipes and products, I am sure there is a world of information out there that I know very little about. For these reasons, I typically stick to simply writing about the products and recipes I try and love.
That caveat aside, and at a slight risk of breaking my own rule, one of the biggest, and scariest, discoveries I’ve made in the realm of green living over the past couple years is just how many crummy, toxic ingredients we put in our skincare products here in the US.
There’s been a recent (good) trend over the last decade or so toward more holistic, natural eating. And it makes sense….people began to realize that the things we put IN our bodies might have a direct correlation with some of the illness and disease we experience as a result. But what isn’t quite as obvious is that the things we put ON our bodies can have just as much impact. Our skin absorbs the things we put on it, so it’s all fair game- shampoo, conditioner, lotion, lip product, makeup, soap… the list goes on.
With that in mind, I’m quite conscious about the skincare products I allow into our home. It took some time, but I’ve transitioned the hubs and myself to totally natural soap, shampoos, lotions, (and makeup, for me). And from the get-go, I was pretty set on making sure P only used green products. In fact, she and I share quite a few! That’s another nice thing about going green for mamas in particular… there’s very little that is unsafe for use with babies! (Check out this post for a list of essential oils safe for babies under 2).
One of the products I recently started using daily on my dry skin (and occasionally on P if she has dry spots), is Preluvi Body Butter. Preluvi is a company passionate about creating personal care products that are actually good for you. In response to a skincare market that so often incorporates toxic and synthetic ingredients in their products, Preluvi launched in 2008 with a mission to provide only the highest quality all-natural products.
The other thing I love about Preluvi is that, in addition to providing a holistic alternative when it comes to personal care products, they also have a company goal to help end human trafficking. They donate a large portion of all their proceeds from Preluvi products to Traffick911, based in Texas, and Red Light Rescue, based in India.
Now that’s a company I can stand behind. Thanks, Preluvi, for what you do. We love your body butter and can’t wait to try out more products! If you are interested in natural skincare and want to try out Preluvi, please use my code: PureLiving to get free shipping off any order over $15!
Lastly, one other natural skin product I love is this Joyal Beauty eye cream. For a tired mama, this is an answer to prayer! It clears up my dark circles and fine lines overnight. Check it out on Amazon today:
